Why do Americans think socialist government doesn't work?

Because Americans do not understand that Socialism is a spectrum with Anarchy on the Right and Communism on the Left. America is closer to Anarchy than it is to Communism and the only way of saving it is through a slightly greater degree of Socialism, however problems with Immigration and Campaign finance and Welfare abuse prevent that from happening. In short...America is screwed!
