Does Socialism have a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it?

Pure Socialism does not really exist, but neither does pure Capitalism (thank God). We need to protect the weakest in our communities, educate everyone including the poor, heal the sick, etc. etc. Those who think that pure Capitalism is the way should be fired from their job when they hit their less productive years and pushed out on an ice floe to die like the eskimos used to do with the elderly. The truth is, we need a bit of both Capitalism and Socialism. It's what makes us great.
