Why are liberals trying to model our government like the european union, when there government is collapsing?

We get it Obama wants health-care, and redistributing wealth to the poor and HUGE government. This is socialism, He wants it to be like europe he wants us to be a socialistic nation. But the thing is we are seeing the downfall of socialism, so it just shows big government and socialism does not work.
