Should Jesus have charged people for the Gospels since giving it away for free is considered Socialism?

Giving stuff away for free is not socialism. State control of institutions like charities or industries is socialism. The fallacious conflation is deliberate. People who are against welfare "must hate poor people" regardless of how much money they give to charities, or time they spend volunteering.
