Cant get zombies to spawn in minecraft?

i made a big dark cave underground so that i can make a trap to kill zombies but it doesnt work idk what i did wrong i made a glass bridge and a pretty big cave there is 25 spaces going to the left and i made a narrow cannel going forward that goes for like 50 spaces did i not make it big enough or what am i doing wrong?
